Border Patrol agent arrested for alleged link to drug cartels, murder of Honduran man

A Texas Border Patrol agent was arrested on charges linked to the killing of a Honduran man earlier this year, according to the San Antonio News and Express.
The agent, Joel Luna, 30, was taken into custody by Cameron County Sheriff’s deputies after they searched his home and found a kilo of cocaine, three handguns and about $90,000 in a safe, the newspaper reported.
They say Luna, who has been a Border Patrol agent for six years, appears to have had dealings with drug cartels.
{{#rendered}} {{/rendered}}Luna is facing charges in connection with possession of a controlled substance, capital murder and organized criminal activity, said the News and Express.
The Honduran victim’s body was found decapitated and mutilated earlier this year floating in the bay off South Padre Island.
Two of four men already charged in connection to the murder are Luna’s brothers, Fernando Luna Rodríguez and Eduardo Luna Rodríguez.
{{#rendered}} {{/rendered}}Cameron County Sheriff Omar Lucio said there appears to be a link with organized crime in Mexico, the News and Express said.
The Border Patrol said in a statement that it does not tolerate corruption and abuse. Luna is being held in Cameron County without bond.
