"Barack Obama and the Seven Latin American Dwarves"

As part of the festivities, figures made out of a paper-mâché-type material, many of them satirizing the news, are displayed on the street. All but the one voted to be the best will be burned in a bonfire on Saturday, March 19.  A play on "Snow White and the Seven Dwarves" titled, "Barakanieves y los subamericanitos." This entry features Barck Obama as Snow White and a bevy of Latin American leaders—including presidents Felipe Calderón (Mexico), Hugo Chávez (Venezuela), Cristina Fernández (Argentina), Dilma Rousseff (Brazil),  and Sebastián Piñera (Chile)—make appearances. Former Cuban leader Fidel Castro makes an appearance as the Evil Stepmother.

Barack Obama is dressed as Snow White ("Blancanieves" in Spanish).

Venezuelan president Hugo Chávez is dressed as Simón Bolívar.

Bolivian president Evo Morales makes an appearance.

Brazilian president Dilma Rousseff wears a scanty Carnival costume; Argentina's Cristina Fernández is seated with a bag of money under her arm. Meanwhile, Mexican president Felipe Calderón has a flag over his shoulder, along with a shotgun and a pistol, to reference the country's current battle against violence and drug trafficking.

Fidel Castro is the evil stepmother offering "Barackanieves" a poisoned apple in his outstretched hand. Nearby stands Bolivian president Evo Morales.
