MANAMA, Bahrain – A Bahrain court has sentenced four men to prison for destroying part of a police captain's house with a stolen crane earlier this year in the violence-wracked Gulf nation.
A government statement on Wednesday said the April attack was part of repeated vandalism against the police officer's home and forced his family to move to an undisclosed location on the strategic island kingdom.
Bahrain has been wracked by near nonstop unrest since February 2011 between security forces and protesters from the Shiite majority demanding a greater political voice. The Sunni-ruled country is home to the U.S. Navy's 5th Fleet. More than 50 people have died in the showdowns.
The statement says one man received a 2 ½-year sentence and three others were sentenced on Tuesday to one year in prison.
