Afghan, foreign forces kill 60 near Pakistan border, officials say

According to Reuters, it is one of the biggest assaults against the Taliban-linked Haqqani network.
Afghanistan's intelligence agency, The National Directorate of Security, said in a statement that about 300 Haqqani insurgents and foreign fighters came under fire when they tried to storm Afghan bases, Reuters reported.
{{#rendered}} {{/rendered}}An Interior Ministry spokesman said the forces were in position after receiving information about imminent attacks by the insurgents.
"Hundreds of insurgents tried to take over the district center but we were there and hit them with a huge blow," Sediq Sediqq told Reuters.
The Haqqani networked reportedly has been involved in some of the most deadly attacks of the Afghan war.
