2 grisly gang rapes show India struggling on women's safety

Indian police say two grisly gang rapes were reported in the last week, including one of a woman whose brutalized body was found in a patch of shrubs in a northern town.

The two crimes are reminiscent of the 2012 fatal gang rape of a woman in New Delhi that spurred widespread protests. Activists say the two recent cases show harsher laws and punishments passed in 2013 aren't deterring abuses against Indian women.

In one case, villagers on Friday found the disfigured body of a woman who was gang-raped and murdered in the northern town of Rohtak. Police said they had two of eight suspects in custody.

In another case, a woman reported being gang-raped in a moving car Saturday in a New Delhi suburb. Police are searching for suspects.
