Woman killed by tree crashing into Wash. home

Authorities say a woman died when a tree blew down and crashed into her house in an area of western Washington state that was drenched with record rain over the weekend.

Kitsap County sheriff's deputies say 55-year-old Diane M. Walker was killed when the huge, old-growth Douglas fir smashed into the home near Southworth just after midnight Tuesday. Two others in the home were not hurt.

Deputies say it was raining with strong wind gusts in the area at the time. The wet weather followed a weekend storm system that flooded many low-lying and riverside areas in nearby parts of Washington and Oregon.

The National Weather Service says river flooding should end by late Tuesday.
