Woman accused of being Michigan fugitive for 37 years fights extradition from California

A 60-year-old woman accused of escaping a Michigan jail 37 years ago is fighting her extradition from San Diego.

Defense attorney Lisa Damiani identified her client as Jamie Lewis and told the court Thursday that she is not admitting to being Judy Lynn Hayman.

Police say she is Hayman.

Michigan authorities want her returned from California to serve the rest of a sentence of less than two years for attempting to steal clothes from a store in 1976.

Damiani says her client will plead not guilty to being a fugitive when she is arraigned Friday.

An identity hearing will be held 10 days after that.

Police arrested the woman Monday at her San Diego apartment after the FBI reported finding fingerprint matches for Hayman at various police agencies but under different names.
