An Irish waiter at a Houston restaurant was tipped $750 by a mysterious customer who heard about the waiter’s hopes of bringing his baby, due in a few weeks, to see his family.
Ben Millar, a 22-year-old waiter, was chatting with a customer identified only by his first name, Jeffery.
Jeffery was talking about his recent trip to Ireland to see U2 in concert when Millar, jokingly said, “Wow, I wish I could go back there for a weekend and visit my family.”

It was an off the cuff comment and said in passing. Jeffery was handed the bill and left the restaurant. When Millar approached the table, he found the $122.87 bill with a $750 tip. There was no sign of Jeffery.
“Hopefully, this can get you back to Ireland for the holidays,” the note said.
Millar’s girlfriend, who is eight-months pregnant, was moved by the stranger’s kindness that she posted a picture of the bill on Facebook.

“I think it’s a blessing and it couldn’t have happened to a better guy than him,” she told The Independent, an Irish newspaper. “He’s pretty stressed right now with money and the baby coming, so this just made his whole year.”
The baby is due on Jan. 20, and Millar hopes to fly out with the baby some time around then.
