MAGNA, Utah – Utah police say a body found in a suitcase along Interstate 80 west of Salt Lake City is not that of a woman who disappeared last month.
Provo police Lt. Brandon Post said Friday the remains are not related to the case of Elizabeth "Elena" Laguna Salgado.
Utah Highway Patrol Lt. Jared Garcia says that identifying marks on the body made it clear that it wasn't her, though he declined specify what they were. He says they're working with another police department to confirm the identity of the body.
State police are trying to determine the age, gender and degree of decomposition. State transportation workers stumbled across the large suitcase in a ravine on Thursday.
Salgado was last seen on April 16 leaving a language school in Provo.
