The student newspaper at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, is changing its name from "Rebel Yell" to "The Scarlet & Gray Free Press" in a bid to end criticism that it was named for a Confederate Army battle cry.
U.S. Sen. Harry Reid on Tuesday praised the newspaper's decision to change the name, which will debut next semester.
The new name reflects UNLV's color scheme.

Newspaper editor-in-chief Bianca Cseke tells the Las Vegas Review-Journal that a Confederate battle cry isn't a great name for a newspaper.
The move comes after months of debate, and Reid called following an allegedly racially motivated mass shooting at a church in Charleston, South Carolina, for the Nevada University Board of Regents to order a name change.
The twice-weekly campus paper has been fighting for funding to continue to publish in print and online.
