UConn files response to Title IX lawsuit, denies indifference to complaints

The University of Connecticut has formally responded to a federal lawsuit that claims it mishandled several reports of sexual assaults on its main campus in Storrs, an allegation it denies.

The filing Monday in U.S. District Court goes paragraph-by-paragraph over allegations made by five women in their Title IX lawsuit. The lawsuit was filed by four women in November and was amended in December to add the fifth plaintiff. It alleged the school failed to protect the women and responded to their sexual assault complaints with deliberate indifference or worse.

UConn attorney Richard Orr says the school strongly denies that.

The school does acknowledge several accusations made in the lawsuit, including that it failed to notify one of the plaintiffs when it rescinded the expulsion of her suspected attacker.
