Top Marine comments on 'don't ask, don't tell'

TWENTYNINE PALMS, Calif. – The head of the Marine Corps says it is up to Washington policymakers to decide whether to allow openly gay troops in the military.

Commandant Gen. James Amos made the comment to reporters after meeting with troops Monday in Twentynine Palms, Calif. Amos is making his first tour of West Coast bases since beginning his assignment as commandant in October.

Amos has expressed concern that repealing "don't ask, don't tell" could affect troops fighting the war.

The Marine Corps is the most resistant to the change, according to a Pentagon survey.
