Officials in Texas are considering a specialty license plate featuring the Confederate flag, a move that has reportedly offended some critics in the Lone Star State.
The Texas Sons of Confederate Veterans designed the plate, which has not yet been approved, to remember those who died fighting in the Civil War. The flag itself is approximately the size of a baseball.
Officials at the Texas Department of Motor Vehicles have already considered the plate once, but have not yet approved it. Another hearing will be held in a few months, KHOU 11 News reports.
Some Texans, including the president of the state's NAACP chapter, told the station they hope the matter reaches a dead end.
"It brings back the anger from which it stands for -- the Civil War -- and I don't think it should be allowed," Donald Dunaway told the station.
Houston Pastor James Nash said he hopes the plate isn't approved.
"It shouldn't be because it's still offensive to a lot of people," he said.
Other Houstonians said they feel people should have a choice.
"I personally don't believe in it myself, but other people might," said Guillermo Sanchez.
