Texas girl, 10, arms herself to save mom from assault, police say
'I saw him hitting and choking my mom, so I wanted to make sure he stopped,' the girl allegedly told police
{{#rendered}} {{/rendered}}A 10-year-old girl from Texas stabbed a man who was attacking her mother, stopping him in his tracks, according to police.
Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez reported on X, formerly known as Twitter, that deputies found a man who had sustained a stab wound to his leg Wednesday at 540 Richcrest Drive in Houston, about six miles southwest of George Bush Intercontinental Airport.
"Awful situation for a 10-yr-old little girl to have to witness and experience," Gonzalez wrote of the incident. "Children who witness the abuse of their mothers, fathers, or other family members, are impacted."
{{#rendered}} {{/rendered}}Harris County Sheriff's Deputy Thomas Gilliland told Fox News Digital that a 27-year-old man was charged with assault on a family member after the incident.

The man called police to the home around 12:30 p.m. Wednesday, Gilliland said, reporting that he had been stabbed by a female relative.
{{#rendered}} {{/rendered}}Responding deputies went upstairs to speak to the girl and her mother upstairs.
"I saw him hitting and choking my mom, so I wanted to make sure he stopped," the girl allegedly told police. "I asked him to stop and he didn’t."

The man was taken to a hospital in "fair condition" to his bleeding wound, per the post.
The mother was also transported to the hospital for injuries she sustained in the attack before her daughter intervened.
{{#rendered}} {{/rendered}}Gilliland said that an order of emergency protection was issued on the mother's behalf, and the man was jailed on $5,000 bond.

The child is currently in her mother's custody, Gilliland said.
