Tennessee head-on crash kills 6, including three children

Six people, including three children, have died in a head-on crash on a Tennessee road, police said Friday.

Tennessee Highway Patrol said an Isuzu Rodeo SUV going the wrong way crashed into a minivan carrying eight people.

It happened Thursday night on US 411 South in Blount County.

Sgt. Bill Miller said the drivers of both vehicles were killed.

In addition the front passenger in the minivan was killed as well as three children.

WBIR-TV reports one of the children killed was an infant.

The other minivan occupants, two other kids and another adult, were injured though the extent of their injuries wasn’t clear.

Police said the SUV hit the minivan when it crossed over into the southbound lane from the northbound lane.

“It’s terrible for first responders, it’s terrible for everybody. These things you know loss of life is so precious, and when you lose so much in one setting it’s almost compounding,” Lt. Don Boshers told the station. “I really don’t know that I can explain it. We have adults and children who have both lost their lives and it’s very, very tragic.”

Police have not released the names of those involved in the crash.

The cause of the crash was under investigation.

The Associated Press contributed to this report.
