Preliminary evidence points to 22-year-old McKay Hutton as the gunman in a murder-suicide that left four dead — including an infant — at an Alaska hotel on Friday, police said in a statement.

A motive is unknown in the deaths of 54-year-old Linda Hutton, 22-year-old Emily McDonald and 2-month-old Teagan Hutton, according to a Fairbanks police statement.

A single firearm was recovered in the room, said Fairbanks police public information officer Yumi McCulloch in a statement. The make, model and location are still being withheld, he added.

Hotel staff called Fairbanks police and fire departments to a Hampton Inn on Friday afternoon. When officers arrived, a man found crying in a second-floor hallway directed police to a nearby room, where they found the bodies.

Police say the man who pointed them toward the bodies is a family member who wasn't present during the shooting and is not being identified because he is not a suspect.

Autopsies were scheduled for Monday in Anchorage.
