Suspect, police dog killed in Long Beach standoff

An assault suspect and a police dog have been shot dead after a police standoff in Long Beach.
Officers went to an apartment complex Tuesday morning to look for a man wanted for several shootings. Police opened fire at around 11:15 a.m., two hours after SWAT officers surrounded the apartment building.
It's unclear what prompted the shooting or whether the suspect fired.
{{#rendered}} {{/rendered}}He was pronounced dead at a hospital. His name hasn't been released.
Also shot was a 4-year-old Belgian Mallinois named Credo who'd been with police for two years.
A distraught officer believed to be the dog's handler knelt by Credo's limp body, then carried it to a police car. Credo was pronounced dead at an animal hospital.
