Superintendent for Pearl Harbor visitors center leaving for job in Massachusetts
{{#rendered}} {{/rendered}}The National Park Service superintendent who was at the helm of the Pearl Harbor visitors' center when tour companies allegedly sold tickets to the site is taking a job in Massachusetts.
Paul DePrey said Tuesday he'll leave Hawaii in June to be superintendent of the Salem Maritime Center and Saugus Ironworks national historic sites.
DePrey says it hasn't always been a smooth road. But he feels he's addressed many of the concerns people have had about improving the Pearl Harbor visitor experience.
{{#rendered}} {{/rendered}}DePrey has been the USS Arizona Memorial visitors' center superintendent since 2008.
Last year, internal National Park Service reports said tour companies sold memorial tickets with the knowledge of park officials even though tickets are supposed to be free.
Another report outlined substandard maintenance at the visitors' center.
