Student is freed on bond in NYC cabbie stabbing

A college student charged with stabbing a New York taxi driver in an anti-Muslim attack has been freed on $500,000 bail.

Michael Enright said nothing as he left a courtroom Tuesday surrounded by a half-dozen relatives and supporters.

Prosecutors say he asked driver Ahmed Sharif whether he was Muslim and then told him to "consider this a checkpoint" before slashing him in the neck in August. Sharif survived.

Enright has pleaded not guilty. His lawyer says the film student was beset by alcoholism and post-traumatic stress disorder from a trip to Afghanistan.

His next court date is Dec. 8.
