A South Carolina man was arrested late Thursday as he prepared to board an overseas flight, where he is accused of trying to join the ISIS terror organization, according to the Justice Department.
Zakaryia Abdin, an 18-year-old South Carolina resident, appeared in federal court Friday morning following his arrest Thursday night by FBI officials, according to the Justice Department.
"Abdin was arrested for attempting to provide material support to the Islamic State of Iraq and al-Sham (ISIS), a designated foreign terrorist organization," according to a press release.
"The charge is based on Abdin's alleged attempt to travel overseas to join the terrorist organization," according the Justice Department.
