Son of Chicago police officer latest victim of gun violence
{{#rendered}} {{/rendered}}The son of a Chicago police officer is the latest victim of the city's gun violence.
Police say 19-year-old Arshell Dennis was shot in the chest early Sunday on Chicago's South Side and pronounced dead at a hospital. A 20-year-old man also was shot and taken to a hospital in serious condition. Authorities haven't revealed details of the shootings.
Police spokesman Anthony Guglielmi says the deceased's father, Officer Arshell "Chico" Dennis, worked patrol with police Superintendent Eddie Johnson.
{{#rendered}} {{/rendered}}The younger Arshell Dennis was about to begin his junior year at New York's St. John's University. Johnson said in a statement he was a "good kid" with "a promising future as a journalist."
The victim's grandfather, also named Arshell Dennis, said he had been expected to return to school Sunday afternoon.
