WASHINGTON – George Washington University officials say students, faculty and parents have been alerted after the U.S. Secret Service warned the school that a man possibly armed with a gun was seen heading toward campus from the area near the White House.
An email alert released Monday night by the university said no suspects were located although authorities searched the area around the school's Foggy Bottom campus.
Spokeswoman Michelle Sherrard said Monday night that after being notified by the Secret Service, the university did not go under lockdown although the school issued alerts by email, text message and Twitter.
A spokesman for the Secret Service did not immediately return messages for comment Monday night.
