RENO, Nev. – A former Reno man who fled to the Caribbean in 1988 after he was convicted of kidnapping and raping a 15-year-old girl is finally headed to a Nevada prison.
Randy Maurice Bridges said he turned himself in to authorities in Miami in April because he couldn't miss an opportunity to see his dying mother, Frankie Bridges.
Bridges, who is now 43, had been released on bail awaiting sentencing more than 20 years ago because an elderly friend put up her home as the bond.
Washoe County District Judge Patrick Flanagan allowed Frankie Bridges, who has inoperable cancer, to hug her son before he sentenced him to life in prison. He could be eligible for parole in about eight years.
