OAK BEACH, N.Y. – Police investigating the discovery of four bodies in a remote New York beach area have removed a sport utility vehicle from a Long Island home where a missing New Jersey woman was last seen.
The homeowner told Newsday this week that he had hired Shannon Gilbert for a "date" in May. Authorities say she was working as a prostitute.
Police are investigating whether Gilbert is one of the bodies discovered about three miles away. They were on a secluded section of Ocean Parkway on the southern shore of Long Island.
Police closed a stretch of the parkway to all but local traffic Thursday morning.
A phone listing under the homeowner's name has been disconnected.
