ELIZABETHTOWN, Ky. -- Three people are dead and four injured after a tractor-trailer and a SUV collided on northbound Interstate 65 near Elizabethtown.
Kentucky State Police Trooper Bruce Reeves says the wreck happened around 3:25 a.m. Wednesday near mile marker 87, but investigators are unsure what caused the SUV, which had Illinois plates, and the Fed-Ex tractor-trailer to collide. Reeves said three people were pronounced dead at the scene and four were taken to Louisville hospitals. Their identities and conditions were not immediately available.
Reeves said the collision caused the SUV to overturn, but neither vehicle crossed the median.
The northbound lanes of the interstate were closed Wednesday morning. Reeves said it would be at least noon before the road reopened.
