CAPE CORAL, Fla. – Authorities say one man is dead after a shooting at a home in southwest Florida.
Cape Coral police said in a statement that officers responded to a home Thursday evening following a report of a terminally ill man with a gun.
When officers arrived, police say the man came outside and started shooting at officers. An officer returned fire and the man went back inside the house. Officers then heard a shot from inside the house. They found the man dead inside the house.
No officers were injured.
Investigators remained at the home throughout the night.
The agency says the officer who fired the weapon will be on administrative leave pending an investigation.
Police haven't released the name or race of the officer or the man.
