Police said that they found firearms and "items that could be identified as bomb-making components, including gunpowder" in his motel room.

Greg Elbert is a salesman at Guns Galore. He called police when he noticed Abdo's suspicious purchases, including 6 pounds of smokeless gunpowder, three boxes of shotgun ammunition and a magazine for a semi-automatic pistol. Elbert said be became concerned when Abdo started asking questions that indicated he did not know much about the items.
