GREENVILLE, N.C. -- A lockdown on the campus of East Carolina University has been lifted, with officials saying there's no danger to students or employees.
The order to secure buildings and remain indoors came Wednesday morning at the school in North Carolina, after a report of a man with what looked like a rifle on a main campus thoroughfare.
In a message to the campus posted on a university website, Chancellor Steve Ballard said the report was "unfounded."

Ballard praised campus and local police for their response, and said the university will always err on the side of safety when such reports come in.
A precautionary lockdown at three nearby public schools and a facility for special needs students was also lifted about three hours after the report regarding the supposed gunman.
