Officials find body of Miami swimmer caught in rough surf

Authorities say a body believed to be a missing swimmer has been pulled from the ocean off Haulover Beach in Miami.

Miami-Dade police spokesman Daniel Ferrin said in a news release that the teen went missing Wednesday morning after going into the ocean with a friend. When they realized the current was too strong, the friend swam to safety.

The teen's body was found later Wednesday.

Ferrin says authorities are waiting on the medical examiner's office to make a positive identification. Ferrin says he was the only person reported missing in the area.

It was a busy day for rescuers in Miami Beach, where crews helped more than 50 people caught in rough surf. Officials urge swimmers to watch for red warning flags and to swim near lifeguard stations.
