LOS ANGELES – Authorities say an officer shot several times by a man who opened fire inside a Los Angeles police station was not wearing a bulletproof vest, as they previously had reported.
Officer Rosario Herrera said Tuesday morning that the officer sustained non-life threatening injuries.
Authorities say the suspect walked into the lobby at the West Traffic Division station Monday night and after briefly speaking to officers began shooting at them. One officer was able to return fire and wound the suspect.
The injured officer is hospitalized in good condition. Police Chief Charlie Beck said he is in good spirits.
The suspect was shot several times. He is hospitalized in critical condition.
Investigators are still on the scene of the shooting. Police say they know of no motive.
