Neighbors call alleged kidnapper a devoted family man who treated his accuser 'like a queen'

Neighbors are expressing disbelief over the news that a Southern California man was arrested on suspicion of kidnapping a 15-year-old girl and holding her captive for a decade.

Police say 41-year-old Isidro Garcia forced the victim into marriage, fathered a child with her and used physical and emotional abuse to prevent her from fleeing.

But the pair's neighbors in Bell Gardens say the man they knew as Tomas Madrano was a devoted family man who treated his wife "like a queen" and doted on their young daughter.

They said the family was known in the community because they worked and worshipped near their home, and threw elaborate parties.

Neighbor Rita Salazar says she never saw any signs of trouble, and she is astounded the victim "waited so long to say something."
