More charges for Va. man accused in terror case

New charges have been added against a Virginia man accused of offering himself as a fighter to a Somali terror group.

Prosecutors in the terror case charged Zachary A. Chesser on Monday with one count of communicating threats and another count of soliciting crimes of violence, charges that carry a total of 15 years in prison. He had already been charged with material support to terrorists in July.

According to an FBI affidavit, Chesser told agents that he twice tried to travel to Somalia to join the al-Qaida linked terrorist group al-Shabab.

Documents available Monday didn't explain what led to the new charges.

Chesser's wife, Proscovia Kampire Nzabanita, was also charged Monday with one count of making a false statement.
