Authorities have lost an untested blood sample taken from a multimillionaire mother charged with killing her autistic son. Its disappearance clouds a significant question in the case: whether she also tried to kill herself with a drug overdose in their New York hotel room.
Prosecutors told defense lawyers in a letter last week Gigi Jordan's blood sample "cannot be found" at a hospital where the sample was taken after her February 2010 arrest. It lingered untested as the sides debated scientific and legal issues.
Jordan's son died and she was found incoherent in a room strewn with prescription pills. Jordan says she tried suicide. Prosecutors questioned that.

Jordan's lawyer says he may try to bar prosecutors from questioning the legitimacy of her suicide attempt. Prosecutors say they'll respond in court.
