JACKSBORO, Tenn. – An Illinois mom won't be charged with a crime after allegedly abandoning her disabled daughter at a bar in East Tennessee, authorities say.
WATE reports police planned on filing charges against Eva Cameron until they discovered her daughter Lynn, who has severe mental and physical disabilities, was 19 years old and her mother was not her legal guardian.
Lynn Cameron was found alone at a bar in Caryville on June 28. She had no identification and was unable to communicate.
Investigators eventually learned the teen was from Illinois and tracked down her mother. Eva Cameron told officers she would not and could not care for her daughter anymore, according to WATE.
"She couldn't handle her anymore," police told The Associated Press.
Lynn Cameron is now in temporarily in the custody of the Department of Human Services until a conservatorship or guardianship can be established with the Department of Intellectual Disabilities.
