A Missouri woman was in jail Saturday after she allegedly raised money by falsely claiming her daughter had cancer.
Police said Carrie Campbell, 35, used forged medical documents to trick people in her hometown of St. Joseph -- about 55 miles (88km) north of Kansas City -- into holding fundraisers and setting up donation accounts for her 17-year-old daughter, KCTV reported.
At least one benefit, a golf tournament to be held in St. Joseph, was canceled after Campbell was arrested Friday and it was discovered that the girl does not have cancer.
