Michigan woman missing after online date found dead in woods

Central Michigan authorities confirm that a body found in the woods belongs to a 45-year-old woman who disappeared during a blind date with a man she met online.

Midland County Sheriff Jerry Nielsen said Thursday that the body found in Edenville Township belongs to Leigh Swanson, who disappeared after leaving for a date with an unknown man Nov. 16.

Nielsen says Swanson was shot to death. She lived in Saginaw County's Saginaw Township.

Authorities found her body Wednesday, one day after a 28-year-old man fatally shot himself as deputies were walking up to his house to investigate Swanson's disappearance. His name hasn't been released.

Nielsen says Swanson called her mother from the man's house Nov. 18, saying she'd be home soon.

The site is about 10 miles northwest of Midland.
