A Maine woman wants to give away the 47 acres of woodlands she owns in the town of Whitefield to the person who can best put into words what they intend to do with the property.
Martha Manchester, of Edgecomb, is holding an essay contest for the land assessed at $57,000. She hopes for at least 3,000 entries with a fee of $100 per entry.
Her contest is like one being run by a Lovell innkeeper who is giving away her business in a similar manner.

Manchester tells the Kennebec Journal (http://bit.ly/1GYjco2 ) her goal is to make more than the fair market value for the land, but she also wants to give people who wouldn't otherwise be able to afford so much land an opportunity to win the property.
