Fugitive murder suspect wielding knife fatally shot during attempted arrest in Seattle area, police say

Authorities knocked and identified themselves at the suspect's Kent home before he came out and charged at them, police said

A fugitive murder suspect was fatally shot by law enforcement in the Seattle area Wednesday evening while officers were attempting to arrest him, Seattle police said. 

The suspect charged at officers with a knife while they were attempting to serve an arrest warrant at his home in Kent, Washington, south of Seattle, after knocking and identifying themselves as law enforcement, police said.

Multiple agencies were involved, including the Seattle Police Department’s Force Investigation Team, Seattle Police Department officers, Snohomish County Sheriff's deputies and U.S. Marshals.

A Seattle Police detective, a Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office detective and a deputy United States Marshal all fired their weapons, the department said.

The investigation is ongoing, police said and the SPD detective who fired has been placed on administrative leave, per policy. 

It's unclear if either of the other two officers who fired are being placed on administrative leave.
