A University of Richmond fraternity has been suspended over what the school called a "grossly offensive" email sent to some students.

The university said in a statement that it has suspended operations, activities and events of Richmond's Kappa Alpha chapter, pending an investigation. The fraternity's national headquarters said in a statement that it has also suspended the chapter while it performs its own review.

The email was obtained by the school newspaper, The Collegian (http://bit.ly/2cTl4rX ). It contains an invitation to a fraternity party and says the night will be one "that makes fathers afraid to send their daughters away to school."

The suspension comes as the university faces scrutiny over its handling of alleged sexual assaults. Two female students recently wrote essays on The Huffington Post criticizing the school's handling of their cases.
