Florida Homeowners Association Proposes Ban on Children Playing Outside

A Florida homeowners association is preparing to vote on regulations that would force children to remain inside their homes – and ban them from playing outdoors by themselves.

At a 48-townhouse community in Edgewater, proposed rules would only allow children to play outside under adult supervision, while games of tag, skateboarding and usage of loud toys would be banned. Violators would be subject to $100 fines.

“You wouldn't see them playing in the parking lot at Walmart or Kmart, but they come here and turn the children loose," homeowners association board member Kim Scott told WKMG.

The proposed regulations have been met with disapproval by parents in the community, which currently has no playground.

"I think people forgot what it was like to be a kid and want to go outside and play," Shawnee Magee, a resident, told WKMG.

Board members will vote on the proposal April 27.
