Fla. reopens coastal I-95 stretch closed by fire

SCOTTSMOOR, Fla. – The Florida Highway Patrol has reopened a roughly 30-mile stretch of a major interstate on the state's central Atlantic coast that was closed because of a fast-moving wildfire.

Rain was in the forecast Tuesday as officials opened all lanes of I-95 in Brevard County. They also reopened U.S. Highway 1. The Highway Patrol still urges motorists to use caution in the area.

The fire remained about 25 miles north of Kennedy Space Center and across the Intracoastal Waterway from Cape Canaveral.

The blaze burned more than 10,000 acres in the mainly rural area, prompting evacuations and destroying two hunting camps and some mobile homes.

The section of I-95 was first closed Monday night.
