Ex-Massachusetts teacher, swim coach, Boy Scout leader faces child abuse charges

A former Foxborough middle school teacher, Boy Scout leader and swim coach has been charged with sexually abusing at least eight boys.

Police have charged 73-year-old William Sheehan, who now lives at a nursing home in Fort Myers, Fla., with nine counts of indecent assault on a child age 14 or older.

The alleged offenses occurred in Massachusetts, some up to 40 years ago. Authorities say Sheehan has not been arrested because he is in poor health. He could not be reached for comment.

Superintendent Debra Spinelli says she told police this summer when a former student, now an adult, came to her with a complaint about Sheehan.

Spinelli says Sheehan worked at two elementary schools and the middle school between 1968 and 1980 when he moved to Florida.
