Driver opens fire during road rage dispute, faces charges

A Detroit-area driver is accused of shooting at a pickup after its driver threw a drink at her in a road rage incident.

The Macomb County sheriff's department says 36-year-old India Marchea McDougal was arraigned Wednesday on a charge of assault with intent to commit murder.

Authorities received a 911 call Tuesday night from a 40-year-old man who reported exchanging words with another driver in Harrison Township. The man says he got out of his pickup to confront her about her driving and threw a drink at her car before she opened fire.

Investigators say McDougal also called 911, saying she fired her gun. She told investigators she feared for her life.

Records say she had a license to carry a concealed weapon.

McDougal has requested a court-appointed lawyer.
