DNA on beer can leads police to Wisconsin burglary suspect

Drinking at the crime scene has apparently led to a burglary suspect in Beloit.

A detective visited the 34-year-old Beloit man in the Rock County Jail earlier this month after DNA evidence was found on a discarded beer bottle and can left behind at the scene of two burglaries. Jason Ecklund was on probation for theft when a scooter disappeared from a garage in Beloit last August. The property owner found a stray beer bottle in his backyard.

The Beloit Daily News says in September, 18 fishing rods, a leaf blower and some liquor were stolen from another garage in Beloit. A beer can was found nearby. Police say DNA on the beer led them to Ecklund, who is due in court March 26.  Ecklund's attorney did not immediately return a call seeking comment.
