Deputy shoots, wounds man during traffic stop

Authorities say a Florida deputy shot and wounded a man who tried to back into another deputy during a traffic stop.

The Sun Sentinel (http://goo.gl/1qIBEW ) reports that the shooting occurred Monday.

Broward County Sheriff Scott Israel says an alert from a deputy's license plate reader prompted the traffic stop. When the deputy got out of his cruiser, Israel says the vehicle's driver tried to back into the deputy.

Authorities say another deputy fired at least once at the suspect, hitting him near the shoulder. The man attempted to flee but was quickly captured.

The suspect was taken to a hospital for treatment and is expected to be charged.

The first deputy suffered minor injuries while trying to avoid the reversing car.

The names and races of the deputies and suspect weren't immediately released.
