BALTIMORE -- Authorities say the death of a Russian woman whose body was found months after she disappeared on a trip to Maryland has been ruled a homicide.
Baltimore County police said Wednesday that detectives believe the death of 54-year-old Yulia Pogrebenko of Irkutsk, Russia, is a domestic-related crime, but they're waiting for information and evidence from Russia before they complete their investigation. No charges have been filed.
Authorities appealed to the public for help in finding Pogrebenko in May, saying the university professor was last heard from on Feb. 23 as she drove from Kennedy International Airport in New York to Catonsville, Md. Her rental car was found in the Baltimore area.
Pogrebenko's body was found in the Chesapeake Bay in June. Russian officials provided DNA samples to help identify her.
