Cops: Mom threw newborn 2 floors into Boston alley

Prosecutors say a Boston teenager tossed her newborn son out a second-floor window into a trash-strewn alley, where a neighbor heard the infant's cries and called for help.

Eighteen-year-old Eva Flores pleaded not guilty Tuesday to charges including assault and battery on a child. An East Boston District Court judge ordered Flores held on $1,500 bail.

Authorities say Flores acknowledged throwing the naked infant out of a bathroom window after giving birth in a bathtub on Sept. 20.

Assistant District Attorney Leora Joseph says the baby was treated for hypothermia, abrasions and other injuries.

Flores — who came to the U.S. from El Salvador earlier this year — later saw the baby and named him Angel.

Defense attorney David Bell says his client is receiving psychiatric care.
