A slithering King Cobra reared its crown at residents of a Houston high rise last weekend, though no one is sure how the snake landed at the luxury lofts.
“It had raised its head a little bit like you would see in Indiana Jones or something,” Ethan Shear, a resident at The Rice, told KHOU. “Enough to know, ‘I should not go near that.’”
The scaly sight scared several residents, some of whom took extreme measures to avoid being near it.

“I went out my neighbor’s window and scaled the wall into my place,” Joseph Manglicmot told KTRK.
Eventually police were called and a pest control company was tasked with removing the snake.
Jarrad Mears, a division manager for Animal Control, said every expert he’s spoken with believes the snake is a Cobra.
“We’ve heard from other residents that there was another resident who resided at that apartment months ago that did have a cobra in his possession and he was asked to leave,” said Mears, who added that it is not legal to own a venomous snake in Houston.
An expert searched third floor apartments and common areas but didn’t find any other snakes, according to a letter sent from Rice management to resident and obtained by KHOU.
