Chicago firefighter loses entire family in house fire
Walter Stewart lost his wife Summer and his children
{{#rendered}} {{/rendered}}The wife and children of a Chicago firefighter died this week from injuries they sustained during a house fire Tuesday.
Summer Day-Stewart, 36, died at 7:30 p.m on Thursday, following her 7-year-old son Ezra who died Wednesday. She was the wife of local firefighter Walter Stewart.
Day-Stewart and all three of her children suffered from smoke inhalation.
{{#rendered}} {{/rendered}}The couple's other two children – a 9-year-old daughter and a 2-year-old son – were pronounced dead on Friday and Saturday, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office. They were unconscious while being treated in the hospital.

The house fire originated in the household's kitchen on Tuesday night. Walter was working when a fire was reported at his home.
{{#rendered}} {{/rendered}}Though his truck was not assigned to the fire, the father quickly recognized his address. He left in an SUV with the battalion chief and was driven to his home.

Fire department spokesman Larry Langford said that Stewart performed CPR on his wife at the scene.
