Chew on this: Car theft suspect caught on video trying to gnaw off his fingerprints
{{#rendered}} {{/rendered}}Authorities in southwest Florida say a car theft suspect tried to chew his fingerprints off in an apparent attempt to avoid identification.
The Lee County Sheriff's Office reports that deputies stopped a stolen 2015 Mercedes in Lehigh Acres, about 20 miles east of Fort Myers, last week. They found that the driver had a fake ID, a concealed firearm and three fraudulent credit cards.
Deputies put the driver in the back of a patrol vehicle. Video shows the man chewing his fingertips and rubbing them against the vehicle's cage. Despite his efforts, a fingerprint scanner identified the man as 20-year-old Kenzo Roberts and showed two felony warrants for him out of Broward County.
{{#rendered}} {{/rendered}}Roberts remains in jail, facing multiple charges. Detectives also contacted U.S. Customs and Border Protection and learned that Roberts is in the country illegally.
